In today’s post-modern era, Muslims are witnessing contextual challenges that may apparently seem unique. Trying to navigate through them as Muslims without proper tools and training may create confusion and stress. The Shaykh al-Hind program (SAH) was created to answer contextual challenges in today’s world and provide Muslims with a Sunni Islamic worldview. As Shaykh Mohammed Amin Kholwadia, the Director and Founder of Darul Qasim states, “We don’t change the content because of the context, but present the content in a way that it is palatable in the context.”
SAH is ideal for students who wish to take a “gap year” after completing high school. It is also designed for college students and professionals seeking to learn Islam academically. For those wishing to progress to the Intermediate Islamic Studies program, SAH satisfies eligibility requirements.

The Shaykh al-Hind Program was named by Darul Qasim Founder and President, Shaykh Mohammed Amin Kholwadia, in honor of Mawlānā Maḥmūd Ḥasan.
Mawlānā Maḥmūd Ḥasan was the first and arguably the most preeminent student of Dār al-ʿUlūm Deoband. His powerful leadership and profound impact on the political landscape led his contemporaries—both Muslim and non-Muslim—to grant him the revered title of Shaykh al-Hind (Shaykh of India).
Under his guidance, a generation of students emerged as distinguished leaders and pioneers across numerous Islamic disciplines.
Through Darul Qasim’s unique immersive Arabic experience, students will successfully learn their fard ‘ayn (individual obligations) through primary Islamic sources.
Students will learn the required sunni framework of the four core Islamic sciences: Quran, Hadith, Islamic Law, Theology. Using Arabic, the academic language of Islam, students will analyze primary academic sources under the guidance of expert scholars in each of the four sciences.
The Shaykh al-Hind program is flexible, offering two tracks:
Eligibility/Prerequisites
The prerequisite for the program is Quran (Arabic) reading fluency.
All applicants must be 18 years or older.
Gap years are an effective way to grow, learn, and be better equipped and prepared for higher education and beyond.
Compared to the traditional high-school-to-college pipeline, Darul Qasim College prepares and trains students taking a gap year to have greater self-confidence, increased personal awareness, improved communication skills, better mental health, and a higher rate of success as undergraduates than those who do not.
At Darul Qasim College, you are introduced to a high caliber college-paced environment, but what stands-out at DQC is the intimate, personalized, nurturing and caring environment prior to going to other colleges or joining the workforce.
Research shows that students who take a gap year graduate with higher GPAs than their peers and are more satisfied with their careers.
Additional Benefits:
IMPORTANT, College Deferral:
Most colleges allow you to “defer” your admission. This means you apply and get accepted now, then ask the school to hold your spot for one year. Many approved scholarships and grants can be deferred to the following year as well. Consult with your high school academic counselor for more information.
