Reflection delivered on April 22th, 2022
“The Ṣaḥābahs’ interests were their ʿibādah. They thought towards the ʾākhirah. […]That’s how the Ummah was given Laylat al-Qadr because of the zeal of the Ṣaḥābah to worship Allah ﷻ. Laylat al-Qadr is a gift from the Ṣaḥābah to us.”
In these last ten nights, Shaykh Amin urges us to reflect upon and more deeply understand how the Ummah was gifted the ʿibādāt that are specific to Ramaḍān. He shares how Laylat al-Qadr and the story of tarāwīḥ (night vigil prayers) are both rooted in a historical context that revel as “the love of the Ṣaḥābah for ʿibādah.” It is this love that continues to allow Divine Gifts to be bestowed upon the Ummah. Understanding how these things take place, the historical context, its applications, and the repercussions of a lack of knowledge and distorted knowledge are all necessary for the worshiper and seeker of knowledge. It protects them from two diseases: jahl (ignorance) and taḥrīf (misguided understanding).
